About Project Oasis

Project Oasis is a research and advocacy initiative that examines how social protection systems, public policies, and cultural narratives shape the wellbeing of men and boys, with the long-term goal of influencing both national and international policy.

Our Perspective

Project Oasis seeks to advance a more nuanced and evidence-informed understanding of the experiences of men and boys within social protection systems, public policy, and public discourse.

We recognize that effective social protection systems are strengthened by a comprehensive understanding of human experiences. While many important social issues receive significant attention, some experiences affecting men and boys remain underexamined in research, policy discussions, and public conversations.

Through research, advocacy, and public engagement, Project Oasis aims to contribute to more informed dialogue and a broader understanding of the diverse challenges and opportunities affecting men and boys.

To advance research, public awareness, and informed dialogue on issues affecting men and boys, while promoting more inclusive approaches within social protection systems and public policy.

WHAT WE MEAN BY "OVERLOOKED"

Project Oasis examines questions such as:

  • Which experiences receive attention and which do not?

  • How do social narratives shape policy responses?

  • Where do support systems succeed?

  • Where do gaps remain?

Our work is focused on understanding rather than reinforcing assumptions.

Identified Gaps

  • Gendered assumptions make it difficult to see men as victims

  • Legal Frameworks and social services that do not recognize men as victims prevent the majority of men from reporting to the authority.

  • Lack of trained practitioners and services for male victims of abuse

  • Lack of guidance and evidence-based approach and understanding to deal with the issues concerning men.
